Celebrate a New Year with New Antiques!

What better way to ring in the New Year than with a newly acquired antique to add to your collection? My husband and I recently made a trip a local antique market and found a 'Grimwade's Quick-Cooker'. I immediately had to snatch it up!

It's a wonderful piece of English pottery and culinary history. You can find out all you need to know about it, just by reading what's written all over it's surfaces. It has instructions and advertisements printed all over it. It worked by providing a central column through which steam would rise and heat the contents (either Engligh pudding or stews) so it would cook quicker, just like it's name... 'Grimwade's Quick-Cooker'.

It makes a great conversation piece and would be great to make pudding!

My favourite Antique

My favourite antique (or collectible... since it's 40 years old) is a baby scale that my parents used on our 'pick your own raspberries' farm when I was a kid. I have such fond memories of that raspberry farm... picking and eating raspberries
(stained red fingers were the proof) and being responsible for weighing quarts and pints of freshly picked raspberries (yumm!). The farm was sold many years ago and now all I have as a memory of the farm are a few pictures and this scale -- a Nursery Queen Baby Scale, by A. R. Lite Mfg. Co. Ltd.
It has a date stamp on the bottom -- Feb. 17 1969... and it still works! Is it worth much monetary value? No. But I can't put a price on my memories.

Why everyone needs to own an antique

You may be wondering 'do I really need an antique piece in my life'? The answer is an undoubtable YES! Here's a little story about how I became interested in antiques...

My interest in antiques began when my husband and I acquired a beautiful dining room set from our great aunt. I never had a chance to meet her, but somehow, having her dining room set in our house made me relate to her. I could appreciate her appreciation for furniture. She obviously had great taste and knew quality! I could tell how little or much she used the table by the markings on it. And I imagine the numerous times she sat down in the same chair to serve her guests, to share stories and some laughs.

You see... antiques will outlive us, but they'll continue to be enjoyed by our children, our grandchildren and many future generations. A great antique is worth it's money. As long as you appreciate and love it.

Maybe someday, someone will buy our dining set and appreciate it all over again with future generations!
